Description The Director of Student Success for Graduate and Continuing Studies serves to advance the mission of the Office of Graduate and Continuing Studies through administrative oversight and student support functions.
The Director will provide a concierge approach to holistic student success by treating each student with an energetic and optimistic attitude while meeting current and anticipated needs throughout their time as a graduate or continuing studies student.
Job Duties Advising & Student Advocacy - Proactively mentor continuing studies students through the process of formulating a personalized education plan utilizing a variety of academic advising strategies including on-one and group advising.
Develop written and electronic informational materials used to advise continuing studies students.
Assist continuing studies students in navigating the application process for graduate and professional schools, including personal statement writing, test preparation, and timeline planning.
Maintain constant contact with continuing studies students to inform them of upcoming dates and deadlines and act as their main liaison for all university matters.
Coach continuing studies students (including academically at-risk students) on goal setting, academic success skills, and utilizing appropriate university academic and student support resources.
Act as liaison between graduate and continuing studies students, program faculty, and college or school administration as needed.
Assist graduate and continuing studies students in navigating university policies, procedures, and resources.
Serve as primary liaison between student services departments and graduate and continuing studies students working to propose a solution where one might not exist.
Develops and facilitates Samford orientation of new graduate and continuing studies students each semester.
Mentor students on the career exploration process by helping them discover and reflect on their personal skills, values, and interests.
Support graduate and continuing studies students in their understanding of vocation and calling in connection to their academic pursuits and the mission of Samford.
Support students in navigating the transition to college, self-advocacy, overcoming personal and/or academic challenges.
Encourage students to connect to their community through engagement, leadership opportunities, and professional experiences.
Challenge and support students in their personal growth and development throughout their time at Samford.
Refer students to other campus resources such as disability services, counseling services, housing, Care Team, health and wellness resources, etc.
Professional Development, Campus Engagement, & External Relations - Serve on cross-functional teams for select student development initiatives and programs such as student activities, orientation, commencement, welcome activities, and other special events.
Continue professional development and scholarly activity in the field of academic advising and adult education to maintain knowledge of trends and best practices.
Collaborate with other campus units to represent Continuing Studies programs for recruitment and marketing purposes.
Serve on university-wide committees or groups as needed.
Administrative Functions - Monitor student progress towards graduation; extract, analyze, and report on student progress utilizing available databases and resources.
Oversee special events planning and coordination for graduate and continuing studies students.
Ensures continuing studies class schedules are up-to-date and available when needed by students and/or faculty.
Serves as the functional advisor to the Graduate Honor Council; recruits members from all graduate and professional programs.
Serves as a member of the Honor Code Review Committee and participates in review of the Honor Code Manual each academic year.
Qualifications Master's degree One (1) year of relevant experience post degree completion, preferably in college-level advising, student advocacy, mentoring or coaching.
Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Educational Leadership, or related area.
Three (3) or more years of relevant higher education advising, counseling, or life coaching.
Knowledge of mental and emotional health needs of college students, specifically adult learners.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
