Sterile processing technicians are key members of the Central Sterile Supply team and play an important role in the safety and quality of patient care.
This department is known as the heart of the hospital for its critical role in providing clean, sterilized surgical instruments for the operating room and other patient care areas at UAB Medicine.
The primary responsibilities for sterile processing technicians involve cleaning, inspecting, testing, sterilizing, and storing hundreds of instruments per day.
The daily process includes decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments as well as case cart management to ensure surgical instrument sets are prepared for the surgical team.
Ideal candidates have previous experience, strong communication and organization skills, keen attention to detail, and a strong desire to work on a team.
New hires are provided 10-12 weeks of hands-on training and certification preparation for technicians desiring to grow their career.
Opportunities are available for technicians to advance to sterile supply technician II, inventory control coordinator, and sterile supply supervisor.

Job Description:
To provide services to any area that requires re-processing of sterile instrumentation.
To clean, assemble and sterilize instrument sets for surgery.
To assemble and organize case carts for surgery.
To stock supplies and perform biological testing of sterilizers.
To operate all sterilization equipment.
Preferred Skills - Experience with Sterile Processing.
Qualifications High School diploma or GED required.
