The ideal candidate will support various clinical and administrative duties, including receiving reservations, verifying insurance, inputting data, and admitting inpatients and ambulatory surgery patients.
General Responsibilities Takes complete reservation information from the physician's office and Outpatient Clinic courteously and professionally.
Determines if the patient must be assigned a new medical records number.
Enters reservation information into the computer registration system accurately and efficiently.
Verifies all patient insurance information, including authorizations and precerts; documents are in the chart and computer system, and all contact is made with the insurance company.
Contact the physician's office for pre-admission certification, pre-existing restrictions, or second opinion requirements.
Informs physician's office of insurance cancellation or non-coverage.
Responsible for contacting the physician's office to communicate when deposits are required.
Records if the patient has a deductible or co-pay in the patient file folder and computer system.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities Ensures that all patients sponsored by an agency have proper authorization in the patients' file folders.
Inform the Admissions Coordinator/Utilization Review Nurse/Financial Counselor of any admissions determined to be self-pay.
Telephone all patients courteously and arrive at the hospital on time for registration, any deposits required, and pre-surgery instructions.
Receives the surgery schedule daily and records pertinent data, such as time of arrival, on the patient file folder.
Prepares patient ID card, ID bracelet, and operator information file.
Assures that utilization review copies are made and returned prior to admission.
Admits patient courteously and helpfully.
Verifies with the patient, at the time of registration, the correctness of all data.
Makes copies of all insurance cards and places them in the patient file folder.
Obtains patient signature on admissions forms and signs the form as a witness.
Collect any copays/deductibles/deposits due upon admission.
When the cashier window is closed, collect any payments for the cashier to post and mail the receipt the following day.
Assures elective admission payments are received before surgery.
Reports to the Admissions Coordinator when a patient from the physician's office fails to comply with deposit requirements for elective admissions.
Follows proper armband placement procedure.
Follows proper procedure regarding advance directives.
Notifies patients, upon admission, of patients' rights.
Assures that all Medicare Inpatients sign and receive a copy of the Medicare Patient Rights Letter.
Properly completes the Admission Development Form on all Medicare Patients.
Ensures that all Medicaid Patients with accident-related conditions complete an XIX Form.
Assures all Champus Patients sign and receive a copy of the Champus Rights Letter.
Returns corrections to the Admission Coordinator within 48 hours after registration.
Ensures all patients are given Notice of Health Info Practice and signs Acknowledgement of Receipt.
Ensures that all inpatients are given the choice to restrict the information that can be given to the public about their visit.
Qualifications Qualifications Must be able to type 6000 keystrokes/hour.
Operate CRT and other office equipment.
Previous experience in hospital admitting and knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding is desirable.
Must communicate effectively with the public and others and maintain confidentiality.
