Computer Systems Analyst/Engineer- Energy Management Systems

This position is responsible for user management, customer fulfillment and monitoring integration for the computer based systems provided by the Energy Management Systems (EMS) department within Southern Company Services Transmission. These systems include Siemens Spectrum 3, EMS 2000, Energy Logs Data System (ELDS), eDNA Historian, EMS Caf , Offline Power Network Applications (OPNA), Inter-regional Security Node (ISN), and others. This position supports the 24x7x365 staff that provides frontline communications, monitoring, support, diagnosis, resolution and coordination with EMS department personnel for second and third tier support and may be occasionally called on to provide coverage of the 24x7 shift operations. There is one (1) position to be filled, located in Birmingham at the APC headquarters.
Job Responsibilities
General system administration of various Windows and UNIX systems, including user account management
Perform problem event and root cause analysis on an as-needed basis
Maintain and provide process improvements to the EMS problem ticketing system and Unified Monitoring tools
Assist in Certificate Management on customer systems
Provide input to the Team Lead and Supervisor on continual process improvement and customer feedback
Occasionally cover portions of the 24x7 support shift, as needed
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Formal education in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or MIS is preferred
Equivalent experience in real time systems environments and technologies will be considered

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both an oral and written manner
Ability to apply excellent customer service skills
Ability to meet Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Sarbanes-Oxley and other federal regulatory compliance requirements
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks based on criticality and operational impact to the Bulk Power system
Ability to follow and properly apply both EMS Department Change Management and EMS Operations Center procedures
Working knowledge of Windows based operating systems required
Working knowledge of Solaris, AIX or other UNIX based operating systems required
Working knowledge of distributed computer networks including but not limited to: routers, switches, hubs and firewalls
Software integration, scripting and/or software development experience is a plus
Ability to build and maintain relationships with key customers
Ability to occasionally work nights, weekends and holidays in support of the rotating shift
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
