This job is located in an ARNG/ANG National Guard organization. Its purpose is to operate and perform operator
maintenance on one or more motor vehicles to transport personnel, supplies, materials or equipment.

ALABAMA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Alabama Air National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Alabama Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Alabama Air National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
AREA OF CONSIDERATION FOR THIS ALABAMA AIR NATIONAL GUARD POSITION:
AREA 1: All permanent Alabama Air National Guard civilian excepted technicians currently employed.
AREA 2: All Drill Status/M-Day members of the Alabama Air National Guard.
AREA 3: All U.S. citizens eligible for membership in the Alabama Air National Guard.
(1) Operates primarily straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW)
of more than 32,000 pounds and/or truck tractors with semitrailers or full trailers to transport personnel or
pick up and deliver supplies, materials or equipment. Incumbent couples and uncouples the truck tractor and
semitrailer or truck and trailer, and connects and disconnects the air brakes and electrical lines. Incumbent
maneuvers vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground, in narrow or
congested areas, between buildings and other vehicles, between parked aircraft and when positioning vehicles
at loading docks. Driver operates vehicles on interstate highways, winding roads, and steep grades and
manipulates the dual braking system to prevent the semitrailer or trailer from jackknifing. Assures cargo is
properly loaded, distributed and secured. Performs operator maintenance on vehicles.
(2) Ensures shipping and accounting documents are with the shipment and reflect actual condition, quantities and
type of material. Completes log books, maintenance records, reports and other transportation documents for
accurate accounting. May identify, inspect, and segregate equipment or material as it is received for obvious
damage and needed repairs.
(3) May perform warehouse work to include issuing receiving and inventorying equipment, supplies and
materials; loading and unloading of trucks; storing and pulling warehouse stock; packing and unpacking
material; and repairing or replacing items on equipment. May select storehouse locations within the general
warehousing plan. Operates electric, gasoline or diesel-powered forklift trucks.
(4) May perform a variety of extensive servicing and light maintenance work on assigned vehicles. May assist in
dispatching vehicles or in the issuance of forms, credit cards or military driver's licences.
(5) Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL
Experience: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position.
SPECIALIZED
Experience: Must possess at least 12 months experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, fuel trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 11,700 kilograms (26,000 pounds) and up to 14,400 kilograms (less than 32,000 pounds). Experience operating vehicles and tractors, some of which may be equipped with special-purpose powered equipment. Experience operating platform, van, stake and dump trucks, refueling vehicles passenger buses or ambulance buses.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Requires skill and knowledge to operate vehicles that have limited maneuverability; have more than one body and two breaking systems; or are oversized. Driver has skill to operate these vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades. Because of the size and weight of these
vehicles, drivers are knowledgeable about turning the vehicles, in evaluating the condition and load limits of bridges, in scheduling weigh points, and in accessing traffic conditions and hazards, locally and over long-distance routes in unfamiliar geographic areas. May require knowledge of warehousing plans and accepted warehousing methods, procedures and techniques. May require normal color vision to differentiate item color codes pertaining to flammability, toxicity and explosivity.
