Department Name PSYCHIATRY Job Description POSITION SUMMARYNonexempt (Hourly - Eligible for overtime) To carries out patient care activities and related non-professional services in caring for personal needs and comforts of patients working under supervision of registered nurse.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSTwo (2) year college degree required OR High School Diploma and two (2) years of healthcare related work experience.
At least two (2) years post-secondary education credit hours completed.
Work experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLSFacilitates groups and activities.
Plans and implements both specialty groups and health teaching groups.
Documents on patients progress in regard to group activities.
Organizes age appropriate patient activities during otherwise un-programmed time, especially weekend time.
Assists Activity Therapists, Social Workers and Nurses as directed.
Maintains current knowledge/certification.
Initiates and conducts search of patient and patient belongings within the guidelines established by policy and procedure.
Carefully monitors for contraband on the unit and strives to maintain a safe environment.
Interventions and limits are direct, timely, non-threatening and effective in de-escalating patient or altering behavior.
Able to lead a crisis team within the milieu, giving direction to others in proper policy for resolution.
Is able to deescalate potentially dangerous situations including proper use of time outs, locked seclusion or restraints.
Exhibits alert, willing, composed attitude in response to emergency/crisis situation.
Operates order entry system.
Basic care such as bathing, feeding, I&O, denture & mouth car, sleep hours both day and night, checking and documenting every 15 minutes on patient rounds.
Observe and document patient's location, behavior and hygiene.
Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide non-direct patient care/support services to staff under the direction of licensed personnel.
Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.
