Summary Description of Position
Manages alliances and agreements for strategically sourced products and services at the Company level. Develops policies, procedures, and objectives for the operation of the procurement program in accordance with organization objectives. Assures new developments relative to procurement are investigated and makes recommendations that meet the objectives of the organization. Works closely with Operations Personnel to get inputs into sourcing strategies and decisions. Coordinates with Division resources to manage strategic sourcing activities.
Essential Functions
Assist with the implementation of enterprise-wide procurement activities; assist business units in developing and implementing a strategy for division-managed procurement activities.
Lead procurement team efforts, which includes development, coordination, and continuous evaluation of current suppliers and procurement agreements. Pursue additional national or divisional agreements, when appropriate.
Assure compliance with procurement agreements by VMC and selected suppliers and manage the supplier base performance in accordance with VMC standards.
Responsible for contract integrity; assures that supplier information (price, terms, contract condition) is accurately documented.
Supports the principles of the company's performance improvement management and management development programs to ensure effective use of department personnel in the attainment of department and company goals.
Other Requirements
Understands how to effect change by influencing others that he/she does not have direct reporting relationship with. Knowledge of procurement strategies, supplier management techniques, target setting and tracking.

Education, Experience, Skills Required
Required - Undergraduate degree. Desirable: Advanced Degree
Desirable: Procurement, aggregate operations and maintenance experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Intermediate computer skills.
Has proven leadership, problem solving, negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledgeable of construction materials industry suppliers, goods, and services.
Ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrates strategic planning and analytical skills.
Ability to cultivate business relationships that are necessary to achieve organization objectives.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
