General Mechanic
Reads, understands and interprets blueprints drawings, floor plans, schedules and manufacturers operating and/or maintenance specifications as they relate to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and special equipment, building structures and finishes. Performs minor, routine and preventive maintenance to include operating, cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, reporting problems, etc., on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, HVAC equipment, and building structures and furnishings. May be called upon to assist other maintenance personnel in the completion of their work to include Electricians, HVAC Mechanics, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, Painters, Sheet Metal Workers, etc. Responds to requests for service from building occupants to include emergencies, hot and cold calls, lighting problems, plumbing problems, minor installations, repairs, adjustments, etc. Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or directed by Division management and supervision.
HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $16.62 - $17.28 - $19.95 (Depends on qualifications and experience)
Completion of High School or equivalent required. An approved accredited post-secondary vocational or technical school diploma in related field is preferred. PLUS, a minimum of two (2) years' experience in mechanical maintenance with similar facilities required and must be showcased on job profile for full consideration.

1. Basic Mechanical Aptitude
2. Trades Mathematics
3. Trades Communications
4. Plumbing Maintenance
5. Electrical Maintenance
6. HVAC Maintenance
7. Building Maintenance
Must possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:
Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet
Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus
Working in confined spaces
Working within extreme temperature ranges
Driver's License valid in the State of Alabama may be required based on departmental need.
