Chief Nurse/Outpatient & Staff Development (Patient Care Service):
Provides executive leadership and direct supervision to the Nurse Managers/Supervisors over the following units:
Blind Rehab, Intravenous Therapy Team, Staff Development, administrative staff who support the service, and Outpatient Medicine Clinics. Research and evidence based investigations are matrixed into responsibilities, as the Incumbent reviews nursing studies and facilitates implementation and publicly related to outcomes. Oversight for nursing orientation and nursing education; works collaboratively with the Chief of Education to facilitate educational programs. Is the VA Nursing Academy VA Coordinator, the NNEI Coordinator, and coordinates with 15 schools of nursing to provide clinical experiences for professional and practical nursing students. Assesses, plans, and evaluates the processes and daily operations of the outpatient units and Staff Development. In collaboration with the Associate Chiefs of Staff for Acute and Subspecialty Care and for Primary Care and CBOCs, designs and implements Interdisciplinary programs within the service and medical center. Responsible for assessing and recommending the allocation of human and material resources. In determining staffing levels models in areas not yet under NHPPD, managing overtime, and plays a significant role in the recruitment and retention of nursing staff. Ensures competency assessment is completed on each nursing employee annually. Reviews EDRP, VASQUIP, IPEC, Performance Measures, and other data for trends and early intervention; formulates follow-up plans with Nurse Executive Team, Nurse Managers, the service, and the medical center. Reports directly to the Associate Director for Patient Care Services and covers in his/her absence as designated. Work Schedule:

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). (b) The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN, but receive a MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. Bridge programs that confer a master's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a Bachelor's Degree is not awarded.(c) In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. (3) Registration Condition of Employment. A registered nurse (RN) will have a current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. (4) Physical Requirements This position requires visual acuity (glasses permitted), keen hearing (hearing aid permitted), clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. Use of rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. (5) English Language Proficiency RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates. Nurse IV Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 4-5 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and appropriate basic or advanced certification desired, and approximately 3-4 years of nursing practice/experience; AND appropriate basic or advanced certification is desired. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
