Responsibilities:
General Position SummaryThis position will provide the management and oversight of all aquatics related operations and programming.
This includes the physical condition of the pools, all associated facilities and programs taking place in the pools, as well as scheduling and training of all staff related to lifeguarding, instructors, managing and customer services functions.

Essential FunctionsWork closely under the supervision of the Executive Director to ensure year-round programs are operating at the highest levels.
Work closely with the Property Manager and Wellness Coordinator to implement all necessary tasks related to maintenance and preventative maintenance, facility planning and enhancements and all other necessary functions to make our indoor and outdoor pools the best facility in the Birmingham area.
Hire and supervise outstanding staff necessary to make sure both pools have the highest quality lifeguarding, instructors and customer service for members during the entire time that the pools are open.
The LJCC pools should be recognized as the safest and friendliest facility in Birmingham.
Provide outstanding year-round training for all lifeguards.
This includes implementing quality checks, conducting ongoing audits, and regularly scheduled in service training to ensure every guard is alert, attentive, and well trained for all the tasks he/she is responsible for performing on a daily basis, as well as in emergencies.
To provide hands-on, direct supervision of all aquatic programs on a daily basis.
This includes participating in classes taught by other LJCC Aquatic Instructors, observing classes, and meeting with aquatic instructors as needed to provide guidance and to receive input.
Supervise and coach the LJCC Summer Swim Team program.
Responsible for developing and monitoring the Aquatics Operation and Programming budgets in close communication with the Executive Director and Finance Director.
He/she is responsible for timely and accurate preparation and entry of all aquatic payroll.
Implement a comprehensive year round program of group lessons, private lessons and group exercise classes.
He/she should initiate on a regular basis, proposals that will improve the facilities and the aquatic programs offered at the LJCC.
He/she should be fully aware of the best and newest trends in the field and research what other facilities currently offer in their aquatic programs.
Provide hands-on-instruction of programs wherever possible and be on call to sub for classes whenever possible.
He/she must work closely with the ECLC, Camp LJCC and the Fitness & Wellness department to administer a high quality swim lesson component to their respective programs.
Work closely with Member Services to make sure all fees are collected in an appropriate manner and that effective systems of control are implemented for all programs.
Act as a liaison to all internal and external groups using the pools.
This includes accurate scheduling, supervision, billing when appropriate, and all follow up tasks to make sure all groups that are using the pool have clear expectations and a positive experience.
Ensure Aquatic program materials and supplies are well maintained, stored, cleaned and organized every day.
The Aquatics Director must be willing to be very flexible in his/her time management and must be prepared to spend whatever time necessary on site to make sure that both pools are operating at the highest levels.
He/she must be prepared to personally be on site if other staff is not available or are not fulfilling their respective functions at the appropriate level.
